Biografia de Westlife
La historia de Westlife comenzó en Sligo, una ciudad situada al Oeste de Dublín (Irlanda). Sus componentes inicialmente fueron: Shane Filan, Kian Egan y Mark Feehily. Los tres estaban en un grupo de teatro, y durante los intermedios salían a hacer versiones de temas pop. Tuvieron tanto éxito que decidieron hacer algunos conciertos y grabar un cd (sólo doscientas copias) que se vendía en una tienda de discos de Sligo.
Poco después les llegó la gran oportunidad en un programa de noticias de la televisión local cantando en un hospital infantil. Ellos no lo sabían, pero Louis Walsh (el manager de Boyzone) casualmente vio ese programa y le encantó, aunque le frustraba el hecho de no poder ponerse en contacto con ellos de ninguna manera.
Fue una casualidad que la madre de Shane llamara a Louis para pedirle que fuera el manager del grupo, a partir de aquel momento se pusieron de acuerdo y Westlife fueron los teloneros del grupo norteamericano Backstreet Boys en Dublín.
La actuación de Westlife tuvo un gran éxito. Ronan Keating (Boyzone) estuvo presente y decidió ayudar a Louis a dirigir de buena manera la trayectoria del grupo, que decidió organizar una audición para fichar nuevas voces para la banda. Los elegidos fueron Nicky Byrne y Bryan McFadden. Nycky Byrne acababa de regresar a su casa de Dublín (tras pasar dos años en el Leeds United), y estaba trabajando con su padre organizando noches de karaoke en varios locales. Bryan McFadden, también de Dublín, se estaba dando a conocer como cantante cuando pasó la prueba para acceder como componente a Westlife.
El grupo, ya como quinteto, realizó una serie de actuaciones para la industria discográfica, y todos los sellos importantes se desplazaron hasta Irlanda para hacer ofertas a Westlife. Finalmente decidieron quedarse con RCA (por su trayectoria con Take That y Five). Firmaron su contrato en el 1998.
Para los fans de la banda irlandesa, se editó un libro oficial llamado "Our Story", en el que se pueden encontrar los comienzos del grupo, como fueron descubiertos, entrevistas individuales con cada miembro hablando sobre sus infancias, sus ilusiones, sus sueños, proyectos para el futuro y una gran cantidad de fotos exclusivas tomadas mientras grababan su primer disco en Suecia. |
